Why It Matters

A Calling Shaped by Experience

After years of leading at The Luke Clinic, where I worked to expand access to maternal and infant health care for some of Detroit’s most underserved families, I felt called to continue serving nonprofits in a new way. I witnessed firsthand the challenges nonprofit organizations face during seasons of rapid growth—when passion and mission are strong, but resources and infrastructure are stretched thin.

Why I Started The Fig Tree Group

That experience led me to start The Fig Tree Group, a consulting practice devoted to equipping nonprofits so they can thrive rather than merely survive. My goal is to come alongside leaders and provide the “plug-in” resources they need—whether in HR, development, operations, or marketing—to build sustainability, strengthen capacity, and expand their impact.

A Heart for the Overlooked

My passion for this work is deeply rooted in a desire to elevate the voices and needs of the marginalized and overlooked. I have seen how inequities in resources, access, and opportunity disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, and I believe nonprofit organizations are uniquely positioned to bridge those gaps. I am especially drawn to organizations serving people who are too often forgotten—those marginalized due to identity, orientation, or background, and those navigating systemic barriers that limit their access to dignity, opportunity, and hope. Walking alongside these leaders and helping them secure the tools, structures, and support they need is, for me, both a calling and a privilege.

The Story Behind the Name

The name The Fig Tree Group comes from the biblical parable of the fig tree. In the story, a vineyard owner grows impatient with a tree that has not borne fruit for three years and orders it to be cut down. But the vinedresser pleads for more time, promising to nurture and fertilize the tree so that it might yet flourish. That image of patient cultivation reflects my heart for nonprofits. I believe that with the right support, time, and care, nonprofit organizations can grow strong, bear fruit, and truly make a lasting difference.

Walking With Leaders

At the core of my work is a passion for equipping leaders so they can lead from a place of strength and resilience rather than exhaustion. I know what it’s like to carry the weight of leadership without enough resources, and my mission is to ensure that no leader has to walk that road alone. Through The Fig Tree Group, I help nonprofits build the foundation they need to fulfill their calling and extend hope, justice, and dignity to the communities they serve.
